Music therapy for pain .. scientists on board or anyone .. any thoughts?
by talesin ini am wondering if there is any research on this subject.. .
it's kind of obscure, i realize that.
playing my guitar takes me to a better place mentally, but does it produce oxytocin?

Do you ever just start CRYING for apparently no reason?
by Terry ini spoke to a friend of mine about this not too long ago.. we are "of a certain age".. the subject came up somehow.. .
i'll be watching a tv commercial or i'll see some people in a park or a simple passing thought will suddenly induce a profound.
sense of---well, how to describe it?

Terry- it's so good to have you back at home! You're a very reflective thoughtful deep thinker. You brought up many reasons for your emotions. I started crying as soon as I read your OP.
Everything that you've personally experienced with your illness is still so tender. You have been through another ordeal in your life and have made it back. And your emotions are just a part of who you are and what you've experienced. Let the tears flow freely. Terry.
I held my tears for so long, Terry, because I thought that once I let my floodgates open, it would never stop.
It stops. And I found that there's nothing wrong with giving in to one's emotions as long as it's counterbalanced and not depression.
We're all getting older. The idea that I may never grow old is over. The processing of that is painful. My loss of loved ones is painful. The time lost is painful.
Then you step back and appreciate how precious time becomes. And while you have the health, time, strength and desire for something, you recognize that it shouldn't be squandered on insignificant things.( which I need to consider as I'm writing this)
Terry, the crying phase will pass.
It just seems that appreciation for living continues to grow as we get older, while the time to live it is lessened.
Maybe that's why everything just becomes more precious.

Tal,
I don't know the science behind it, but I know it worked for my mom to relax. It was soothing and comforting to have the Music therapist's visit for both of us. And when in a group setting Music Therapy engages the person's involvement and interaction with instruments, singing and other people.
However, pain is pain. And there are different tolerance levels for each individual.
Sometimes you need the drugs. And when you do, you should take them- as prescribed. Just don't abuse them.
But, I know when I'm listening to music it always brightens my mood.

Relationship Issues: Boundaries, Freedom of Choice and Codependency
by 00DAD inrelationship issues: boundaries, freedom of choice and codependency .
i just read a very interesting thought in the book, "boundaries" by cloud & townsend.
the basic problem in human relationship is that of freedom.

00Dad- it still blows my MIND that I was in a CULT!!!!
--------------------
And isn't kinda funny how the WTS speaks about boundaries, while they insidiously over-step their boundaries in the lives of it's members!
I wonder how they are going to keep JW's under control in the next several years to come.
There are fewer meetings. Everyone has access to the internet. So, maybe they will have to come up with more fear tactics to keep the members in line
I hadn't recognized how fearful I became.
And now, when I listen to Jw's speak, I hear them say word for word the same thing. Everyone repeats the same mantra over and over again:
"We have to stay close to the organization."
"We are in the last hours of the last days of this system"
"We have to preach the word.
Study the publications. Prepare for the meetings. Meditate." And, so on.
And while we were in fear of our lives and our loved ones salvation, they were busy making plans for a new complex that will take years to finish.

Let's Discuss Ray Franz's Books
by Recovery ini have been repeatedly pleaded with to read the books of ray franz in my short stay on this board.
apparently these are all the all-powerful, wt crushing arguments, that lead so many to leave jw's and become ruthless opposers of god's people.
we can discuss any claims/statements/scriptural arguments presented in either of his books, as long as it somehow proves jehovah's witnesses are not god's people.

I just gotta throw this out here. Hasn't anyone noticed that Recovery said that he works full time and pioneers. (Don't believe it)
Why would he start 2 threads within days of eachother? (not including the 3rd for his limitations on this site)!!!
Why wouldn't he use his precious time to first answer questions posed? He appears to be very intelligent.
I think you're all being hoodwinked. Really.
This is someone who gets their jollies from the remarks of everyone and enjoys the argument and believes he has the upper hand.
He's laughing his ass off! He's pulling the strings on the marionette.
( I guess this is also feeding the TROLL- but I will not feed him again)
Seems like a classic case of NARCISSISM!!!He is living for this ATTENTION!!!
(He needed for someone here to provide a PDF for Franz' book?)
PLEASE! HELLO!?! WARNING!!!! Stop feeding the troll!!!!WARNING!!!!

"Recovery", I have observed you since you began this thread. I think you are a TROLL! James_woods called it from the get-go.
And our own King Sol recently taught me the word "strawman". You are a strawman.
Let me define it for you in this context; "A bundle of straw made into the likeness of a man and often used as a scarecrow. (Lions, and tigers and bears,Oh, MY!)
Oh, that may apply. Or maybe it's this: An argument or opponent set up to be easily defeated.
From the very first, you started to argue with everyone and not dialogue.
Troll, BE GONE! Stop inciting everyone. Do something worthwhile.

What appealed to you about the truth that made you want to learn more? If you already know the story ask them to refresh your memory so you have an idea where to direct your conversation.

Cranky old man
by still thinking in``when an old man died in the geriatric ward of a nursing home in an australian country town, it was believed that he had nothing left of any value.. later, when the nurses were going through his meagre possessions, they found this poem.
its quality and content so impressed the staff that copies.
were made and distributed to every nurse in the hospital.. one nurse took her copy to melbourne .. the old man's sole bequest to posterity has since appeared in the christmas editions of magazines around the country and appearing in mags for mental health.

Still thinking- this is the first post I read today. Now, you've got me crying like a baby!!! It is so moving and I know exactly what he speaks of.
When my mom was in the hospital, that is how she was treated. You have no choice but to give in to the fact you are seen the way this man described the experience. I saw it as an observer. And it hurt me for my mother, deeply. The nurses and staff have stressful jobs, but sometimes forget that these people are precious to us. They are loved or they WERE loved.
( I see you -ME!!!)

What Do You think About Watchtower View on the Use Of Mother's Natural Milk Banks and Milk-Sharing Practices?

I've seen babies being breast fed while in the lobby at Patterson. Not a single breast was exposed. It was handled so discreetly. It's ridiculous to expect mom's to go feed their babies in a rest room.
Has the WT expressed its view on the use of breast milk?
